Mrs Joy Freier and Ms Denise Nichols were among leading Melbourne Anglicans who attended celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Mothers’ Union in Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) recently.

The celebrations, in the capital Yangon (Rangoon), attracted 1600 people. The Melbourne group included 12 Karen women from the MU group at St Thomas’ Werribee, who returned home after 30 years.

Mrs Freier and Ms Nichols also visited Myanmar last year with their husbands, Archbishop Philip Freier and Archdeacon Alan Nichols, Coordinator of Multicultural Ministry for the Diocese of Melbourne.
