Surely a family’s distress constitutes enough reason to cancel a proposed SBS program on the hanging of Kim Nguyen.

For those of faith who understand life is a gift from God, capital punishment is a terrible matter.

The anguish caused by the execution of Kim Nguyen was vivid in St Ignatius’ Church on the morning of his death.
The sanctity of life and humankind’s presumptuous folly was focused in prayer.

There was and is still great empathy for him and his loved ones.
For a predatory section of the media to now feed on this anguish, fanning a distressing voyeurism, is disgraceful: it is a matter of no grace.

Hence we urge the withdrawal of this program by those responsible.
