The Bush Church Aid Society (BCA) has appointed a Ridley Melbourne Senior Lecturer, the Revd Adrian Lane, as Victorian Regional Officer. Mr Lane will begin his new role in February 2013.

He has been Senior Lecturer in Ministry Skills and Church History Norman Allchin Lecturer in Evangelism at Ridley.

Mr Lane’s forbears come from Warrnambool, Maryborough, Rupanyup and Rainbow, in the Wimmera.

He knows the Australian church and regional Victoria well, having served at Ridley Melbourne for 22 years. During this time, he has trained ministers for regional Victoria, served on Provincial Council and has led preaching workshops and evangelistic missions in a wide range of regional centres. Recently, he also served on secondment with the Mathew Hale Public Library in Brisbane.

Mr Lane originally trained in Social Work and Psychology and worked as a Social Worker for the Royal Australian Navy, specialising in submariners and their families. Later, he undertook theological studies at Gordon-Conwell in Massachusetts and at Princeton Theological Seminary, focusing on Preaching and Pastoral Care. He was ordained for the Melbourne diocese in 1992.

At Ridley, he has overseen the Ministry and Practice Department and been an Ordination Adviser. He also has been Secretary of the Australasian Academy of Homiletics and served on the Advisory Board for Arrow Leadership Australia.

“It is a real privilege to be given the opportunity to serve regional Australia, and regional Victoria in particular, through the ministry of the gospel,” Mr Lane said. “I am delighted and excited. A great tradition in BCA’s history has been its commitment to prayer, and I eagerly ask for a fresh wave of prayer for regional Victoria. Regional Victoria has been through a tough time with council amalgamations, more than a decade of drought and recent floods. However, there is also fresh optimism with the recent rains. May that economic optimism be accompanied by a new movement of the Spirit, as people find hope and love through faith in Christ.”

Mr Lane replaces the Revd Greg Jones, who retired in May after holding the role for the last nine years. There are four BCA-supported ministries in Victoria: church work at Strathfieldsaye, Sunraysia South and Central Mallee; and youth ministry at Sale.
