As the Diocese prepares for the Diocesan Ministry Conference in July, churches, households, small groups and individuals are invited to pray for God’s wisdom, guidance and renewal.
This is a significant moment in the life of the Diocese. We are gathering to listen, discern and seek God’s leading for the future of the Church and the life of Melbourne and Geelong.
Please pray for wisdom and discernment, courage for change, unity in Christ, clarity in mission and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
Prayer is a shared space in this season of discernment.
As a Diocese, we are preparing to gather, listen and seek God’s leading for the future. This is not only preparation for an event. It is part of a wider call to pray for the renewal of the Church and the life of Melbourne and Geelong.
Whether you are attending the Diocesan Ministry Conference, joining the Wednesday evening prayer gathering, praying in your local church, or praying at home, this page offers simple ways to pray.

“I am now a hundred and twenty years old and I am no longer able to lead you. The Lord has said to me, ‘You shall not cross the Jordan.’ The Lord your God himself will cross over ahead of you. He will destroy these nations before you, and you will take possession of their land. Joshua also will cross over ahead of you, as the Lord said. And the Lord will do to them what he did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, whom he destroyed along with their land. The Lord will deliver them to you, and you must do to them all that I have commanded you. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

God’s people stand on the edge of the Promised Land after years in the wilderness. Joshua is about to lead them through a season of significant change, with many reasons to be fearful.
Yet Joshua’s courage did not come from minimising the threats before him. It came from knowing that the LORD would go before him and be with him.
The writer of Hebrews applies this same promise to us: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. ” Because God is with us, we can face change with confidence and say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid” (Heb. 13:5–6).
Pause
For a minute, still yourself, leave whatever it is you have been doing, and ask for the Spirit’s guidance as we pray.

Thank God for going before us. Thank God for specific occasions where he has gone before you, your church and for our diocese. Thank God that he is with us as we go into this season together. Thank God for the people, places and things that assure you that God is indeed with us as we go.

Take time to name before God any lingering fears or worries and entrust them to him. Surrender to God this new season under the leadership of Archbishop Ric and the Assistant Bishops

Entrust the health and growth of our diocese to God’s wisdom and timing.
From Tuesday 14 to Thursday 16 July, clergy and authorised lay ministers from across the Diocese will gather for the Diocesan Ministry Conference.
Please pray that this will be a time of deep prayer, generous listening, honest conversation and shared discernment.
Pray that those who gather will be attentive to the Holy Spirit, open to one another and ready to respond faithfully to God’s call.

On Wednesday 15 July, the diocesan family is invited to gather at St Paul’s Cathedral for an evening of prayer.
This will be a time to come before God together, to give thanks, to listen and to pray for the renewal of the Church and the life of Melbourne and Geelong.
